We should initiate the habit of Diary writing in our day to day life to grow as a good human being. Diary writing is of the most informal and personal form of writing a person's experiences, dreams, thoughts, which are narrated in a writer's diary. Though today's world is technology-driven. People are more adapted to blogs, e-books, and other digital formats to write the diary.

Diary writing is still a popular form of expressing once feelings and thoughts. But very few people like to write their day-to-day activities in a written form. But nowadays young generations do not indulge in diary writing activities, due to today's internet and social media influences.

Diary writing is a good activity, for those who want to vent out their emotions whenever they feel lonely or depressed. These activities do not require any literary skills to express. It’s an informal format of writing. It also helps us to look back at life events and analyze yourself based on your past.
The quality of writing depends upon the writer's imagination, expression, and creative skills. Writing quality can be enhanced by imagining a situation. There are no set rules or regulations to write a diary, it all depends on an individual's way of expressing their feelings and emotions in a formatted manner.

There are some essential points to be kept in mind to make diary writing in a more organized, comprehensive, creative and interesting way.
  • We have to maintain the day, date and time of your writing.
  • Mention a crisp title to your description.
  • Write your thoughts in a descriptive form.
  • It should always be in the first person, not in 2nd or 3rd person.
  • It is in an informal style of writing.
  • In the end, he/she can add signature as authenticity.
Why and how to write a diary?

There are some basic points to be kept in mind before writing a diary:
  • The first and foremost rule is that write diary only if you feel like writing it, not for the sake that everyone is doing or friends are doing it because they might have a habit of expressing themselves through writing.
  • Usually, build a habit to write a diary when before the day begins and end it before the day ends. Writing before a day begins will enable you to express your emotions about how you will spend your day, your plans, etc. And writing it before the day ends, will enable you to analyze the events of your day and you can relate it to the emotions you had in the morning and so on.
  • Diary is a very personal form of writing and hence it should be written in private so that others won't indulge your privacy.
There is no hard and fast rule to write a diary regularly. You can write it whenever you feel to vent your feelings and experiences which u can't share with anybody. Pen down your feelings honestly.
Now wondering what to write, it maybe anything about your dreams, future plans, achievements, mistakes, things you want to change, etc., can be expressed in a language that you are comfortable expressing. Maintain the secrecy of your diary, because it might hurt the feelings of the person about whom you have mentioned in your writing. So the writer can use a coded form to avoid these sorts of discomforts.

Writing a diary is not just about words, you may add some photos, pictures about the events, or memories which you want to cherish it for a lifetime. Make it a piece of literature filled with your life's happy and low moments.

These are some tips to write a diary, there are no perfect rules to be followed; it all depends on the individual personality, their way of expressing and understanding about their lifestyle.


Today's in this fast-moving world where people are not emotionally connected, we need to have a small break to look back and analyze ourselves. Diary writing will help us to do so. It keeps us be connected to our inner selves.
